Alkaline juice

Alkaline Juices!

Welcome! Making your own alkaline juice can be a great way to restore balance and health to your body. Did you know that many sources state a healthy functioning body is one that is slightly alkaline? That the blood needs to maintain a 7.35 to 7.45 ph balance to be healthy. When we are outside of this range, whether it be more towards the acidic or the alkaline health problems can develop. Our bodies will fight as hard as they can to maintain this ph balance. The resources that our bodies use in order to do this can sometimes come from places that need it just as much.

Many health professionals believe and some studies have shown that it is very possible that a lot of the illnesses, diseases and poor health conditions of our modern society stem from our acidic diets. The list includes cancer, arthritis, heart disease, diabetes and many more. While it is possible to be to alkaline, it is much more common to be more on the overly acidic side. This is due to the typical modern diet and also the modern environment which has many pollutants.

On this page(lens) you will find some very helpful information on the top alkaline vegetable juices. We will also briefly go through why fruits in general are believed by some to be more acidic in nature to our bodies than alkaline. While this may be true there are still some fruits that most agree can have an alkaline effect on our bodies and we will talk about these , as well as discover how to mix them into our alkaline juice. Mixed in between and definitely important we will give you some great alkaline juice recipes as well as provide you with some further resources to continue your alkaline diet journey!

The Top Alkaline Juices

There are many alkaline juice possibilities, but there are some that stand out above the rest. Described in more detail below are those that I found to be among the top kinds of alkalizing juices.

Wheatgrass
Wheatgrass

#1. Wheatgrass Juice

Wheatgrass juice definitely takes the number one position for the best alkaline juice. Not only does wheatgrass make one of the best alkaline juices there are, it is also one of the most nutritional foods that exist on the planet earth! As well as containing a wide spectrum of micro nutrients, wheatgrass juice also carries a high amount of chlorophyll. This living substance has a chemical structure that is almost identical to hemoglobin. The blood that runs through our bodies is made up of about %75 hemoglobin! The positive health benefits from the chlorophyll alone in wheatgrass could be a subject all of it's own. For our purposes here it is important to note that chlorophyll on top of many other things is a highly alkalizing substance and this mixed with the many alkalizing minerals in wheatgrass juice make it number one on our list of alkaline juices.

This link here has some really good wheatgrass juice recipes . These juice recipes also contain some of the other alkaline juices mentioned below and are a great way to alkalize your body!

Cucumber

#2. Cucumber Juice

Cucumber juice comes in at #2. and some feel that it is a close tie between this and wheatgrass juice. Cucumber juice contains a high amount of alkaline water as well as many alkalizing minerals. These alkaline minerals include molybdenum, phosphorus chlorine, calcium, potassium, manganese and sulfur.

Cucumbers also contain high levels of silica, which is a trace mineral that is not found in many foods. Among silica's many health benefits is it's ability to aid in the growth and maintenance of connective tissue in our bodies. Studies have found that silica may be more important for osteoporosis than calcium. Cucumbers have been noted for their ability to help keep the skin healthy and youthful. This is mainly due to the silica that is in cucumber.

#3. Spinach Juice

Out of all of the leafy greens, spinach juice has been mentioned the most as an alkaline juice. While taking in spinach is a great way to alkalize your body. It is important to note that spinach is high in oxalic acid which among other things has been found to bind to calcium. This makes a lot of the calcium in spinach unavailable to our bodies. There is debate about whether this increases the possibility of forming kidney stones, because %80 of kidney stones are mainly composed of calcium oxalate. Many nutritionists and health experts believe that the nutrition benefits of spinach strongly outweigh the small chances of increasing kidney stones. It is recommended that to help flush out the calcium that is bound to oxalic acid during this process. That a person should drink water both before and after taking in spinach. The fact that the spinach we are talking about here is in the form of juice makes it unique. Already being in liquid form this should help to increase the flushing of bound calcium. The amount of calcium in spinach that is said to be bound up by oxalic acid is about %95. So by taking this juice in you will still receive a small amount of calcium. Adding spinach juice to your diet one to two times a week at maximum may help to lower the risks associated with oxalic acid and is the way I personally approach this issue.

With all of this being said spinach makes a great alkaline juice and should be considered among the top alkalizing juices. Spinach juice contains a good amount of chlorophyll as well as the strong alkalizing minerals magnesium, iron, manganese, potassium and others. Spinach juice is also associated with quite a few other positive health benefits that include anti cancer properties, blood building, brain function, detoxifying effects and prevention of many diseases.

#4. Lemon Juice

When most people including myself at first hear that lemon juice is alkaline they might shake their heads in disbelief. Everyone knows that lemons are acidic right? While this is partly true there is a reason why they are amongst one of the best alkaline juice sources. Lemon juice is acidic while it is outside of our bodies. When we take it into our bodies it becomes alkaline. This is because the acidity or alkalinity of something that we take into our bodies is determined by how our body reacts with it. When lemon juice is metabolized by our bodies it produces alkaline compounds.

Some people believe lemon juice is one of the most alkalizing juices we can drink. There are differences in opinion when it comes to this question, yet overall most agree that it is definitely one of the top alkaline juices.

#5. Celery Juice

I have really gotten to be amazed by how many health categories this humble vegetable falls into. To go on about the many health benefits of celery would take up an entire page(lens) of it's own. Celery has a load of nutritional benefits and one of them so happens to be it's alkaline properties. Celery juice makes a good addition to any alkaline juice as it contains some important alkalizing minerals.

Celery is a good source of potassium as well as sodium. The sodium in celery juice differs from the type of sodium we are used to hearing about, as it is an organic plant based sodium. The difference between this type of sodium and it's inorganic counterpart is that it does not have chloride attached to it. This makes a difference when considering it for health benefits as well as how it relates to heart health. The body needs sodium and celery juice is a good clean source of this alkaline mineral. Celery also contains quite a few other alkaline minerals in smaller amounts. These contribute to help make celery juice one of the top alkaline juices on this list.

You can follow this link for some great celery juice recipes . All of the celery juice recipes on that page make great juices, but if you are wanting recipes mainly for the purpose of alkalizing your body. The first three listed there make great alkaline juices and are a great addition to an alkaline diet.

#6 Kale Juice

Kale is another vegetable that has so many health benefits associated with it. One of these benefits is that it makes a highly alkaline juice. Kale has a high chlorophyll content and one of the main reasons this isn't talked about as much as it is with spinach is simply because it is not as well known.

Kale unlike spinach is low in oxalic acid and is a great source of calcium. Cup for cup kale has been shown in studies to be a better source of calcium than milk. The main difference is that the calcium in kale is more easily absorbed by our bodies than the calcium in the milk. Dairy is also acidic to our bodies which in the long run promotes the leaching of calcium from our bones in order to maintain the alkaline balance talked about above.

Kale is an excellent source of vitamin K and a really good source of manganese. It is also a decent source of potassium, iron, magnesium and Phosphorus. This mineral combination along with it's high chlorophyll content makes Kale a great alkaline juice and it should be a top choice for anyone trying to maintain an alkaline balance.

#7. Broccoli Juice

Broccoli juice is alkaline as well as extremely nutritious.

#8. Coconut Water

Coconut water is a very alkalizing treat.

Why fruits in general might be more acidic than alkaline.

If you have spent any amount of time searching for lists of acid/alkaline foods. Then you know that there are quite a few different lists and that they can have some differing information. The confusion about what is on these lists as is relates to fruits has to do with the way that the alkaline reading is being defined.

Potential Renal Acid Load (PRAL) is the measurement that a lot of these sources are using to define what is alkaline and what is more acidic to our bodies. The problem with this is that to get this reading the food being measured is burned at extreme temperatures and then a reading is taken from the ash that is left. A ph reading is determined from this ash and this measurement is what a lot of sources are using to determine their lists.

This will give an alkaline reading of the mineral content of the food in question. The problem is that by burning it at these temperatures the most acidic content in the food is burned in the process. Sugar is the acidic causing content that we are talking about here. The reason why some fruits are on the top of some lists is because they contain high amounts of alkalizing minerals. The problem with this is that the sugar they contain creates acidity and some believe that this voids out the alkaline minerals. As to how much this happens there are different opinions, but there are enough of these opinions out there that I thought it worthy of mention here.
